Regular Exercise’ll Boost Immune System Against COVID-19 – Expert
Date Posted: 17/Feb/2021
The Chief Executive Officer of i-Fitness Centre Limited, Mr Foluso Ogunwale, has urged Nigerians to imbibe the culture of regular exercise to boost the body’s immune system.

Ogunwale, at the unveiling of the centre’s branch in Magodo said keeping the body fit was vital in fighting COVID-19.

He said, “Exercise boosts the immune system. Furthermore, those who passed on from COVID-19 are largely those with underlying medical issues; meaning the stronger your immune system, the more likely it is to survive a COVID-19 infection. This just reminds us not to compromise on health and wellness.

“According to a survey in 2018 by the World Health Organisation, the average life expectancy of the Nigerian male is 54 years and for females, it is 55 years. This is quite disturbing. Non-communicable diseases like heart-related ailments, diabetes are largely avoidable if physical activities and nutrition are prioritised.

“Paying attention to one’s health is not luxury, it is not something we do as a one-off thing, it is what we do all our days. At i-Fitness, what we are doing is to make it fun, so that it becomes easier to adopt as a way of life.”

He added that the firm’s intention was to be the continent’s most preferred fitness chain that would create a youthful, entertaining and functional fitness experience.

“We plan to have at least one i-Fitness branch within a five-kilometre radius of the urban cities in Nigeria and West Africa.

“i-Fitness is committing over N2bn investment in the Nigerian fitness industry. This investment is set to instill the culture of health and wellness amongst us in the urban communities in the country, providing a network of convenient and affordable fitness centers,” he said.
