The State Chairman

NANNM

Akwa Ibom State Council

The Unit Chairman,

NANNM, UUTH Branch

ASSAULT ON A NURSE IN UUTH

The leadership and the members of Nursing Ambassadors of Nigeria receive with grief the news of unwarranted assault and battery of our dear colleague at the post natal unit of UUTH on Wednesday 29th April, 2020 by a male police officer.

This dastardly act has brought to our notice the numerous assault perverted on our professional colleagues in Akwa Ibom and the country at large at various times and places.

It is worrisome that even the security apparatus attached to this federal institution did nothing to avert this mayhem.

The Police officer's action negate what is inscribed in the National health act 2014 which gives protection cover to every health workers. This is highest level of illegality, impunity and lack of respect for the rule of law which the said Police officer swore an oath to uphold.

We condemn in totality this insult and other forms of illegality unleashed on the already stressed nurses who are at high risk in the face of the global pandemic.

Nursing Ambassadors of Nigeria

We commend your leadership's sagacious and prompt interventions in halting further desecration of our noble and dignified profession by an ignorant driven police officer and a porous working environment which could not provide for basic safety of her workforce.

Your thoughtful steps are  indeed an eye-opener that we are practically ready to reclaim our profession to the path of glory.

Our stand is that this unfortunate display of temper tantrum should be addressed by appropriate authorities once and for all as a matter of urgency.

We will resist all forms of intimidations and political brigandages to ensure justice is duly served.

The culprit should be made to face the full weight of the law and necessary measures should be put in place to protect the lives of nurses going about their lawful responsibilities.

We commiserate with the victim and all nurses and pledge our unalloyed solidarity with the leadership of NANNM in  the state in the fight for the restoration of  respect, liberation and dignity preservation of all nurses in the state and the country at large.

Please accept our organization's warmest regards.
