The Chairman of the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Coalition in Gombe State, Alhassan Yahya, has advocated feeding as a means of ending the issues of Malnutrition in the state. Yahya in an interview with our correspondent in Gombe, urged the state government to embrace infant feeding to tackle the burden of malnutrition in Gombe State.
He said, “It will be good to have the government focus on infant feeding. This is a preventive measure that will in no small measure help the government to reduce the high rate of malnutrition amongst children in our state.
“The malnutrition data is not favourable to Gombe State. One in every two children is severely malnourished. A lot still need to be done to check this trend. The coalition will continue to carry out advocacy to relevant ministries and the legislature, to make funds to be properly allocated and released in time to reduce the burden of malnutrition in the state.
The Executive Director, Care for Life Mission, Placidus Peters, said, “It is strongly motivating to see how much desired change a little united effort could bring. The more united we increasingly are in addressing acute malnutrition, the higher the chances and the quicker we can eliminate it in Gombe State and Nigeria.”
