NursingWorld Nigeria Statement On The Murder Of Midwife Hauwa Liman (RM)
Date Posted: 16/Oct/2018
“On behalf of Nursingworld Nigeria, our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Hauwa Liman (RM) who was murdered in cold blood by ISWAP a break-away group of bokoharam yesterday the 15th of October 2018. As we grieve, our thoughts are also with the many other victims and their families whoes lives have also been cut short.”
“As ever, our gratitude must go to all healthcare professionals, specifically nurses and midwives who go above and beyond the call of duty in caring for their patients in many of these unsafe areas.”

In the past few weeks, various bodies and personalities including the ICRC where they worked, the ICM, Toyin Saraki amongst others had pleaded with the sect to show mercy and release the other healthcare providers after they had murdered Nurse Saifura. But yesterday we got the news that Hauwa had also been executed.
Healthcare providers are not part of the fight, they are #notatarget. They are midwives, nurses and doctors. They are fathers, brothers, uncles, daughters, wives, aunts and mothers – men and women with families that depend on them.
Like Saifura, Hauwa who was 24 years of age, was said to be full of life, sociable, dynamic and enthusiastic who was much loved by family, friends and colleagues. Hauwa was abducted in an attack in the north-eastern town of Rann on 01 March, together with Saifura Hussaini Ahmed Khorsa and Alice Loksha.

Their families, friends and colleagues will always miss them dearly and would always keep their memories close to their hearts.
We pray that Nurse Alice who worked in a centre supported by UNICEF and Leah Sharibu who were both abducted by the sect regain their freedom and are reunited with their loved ones and families.
We also call on the Federal Government to do all within its powers to ensure their safe release and return home.
