The Future Of The Nursing Profession By Kareem Oluwagbemiga Light
Date Posted: 14/May/2018
The future of nursing profession is focused on Education. Nurses with doctorate degrees are needed to teach the future generation of nurses and to conduct research that will become the basis for improvement in nursing science and practice. To meet health cares growing demand,  nurses must be competent in several disciplines such as Leadership, system improvement, research and public health. NURSING is also expanding into technology and information management roles.
But it's quite unfortunate that Nigerian nurses are not advancing in education at all, the moment they have gotten a license to practice as a registered nurse(RN ) that is the end of the road in Nursing education. Nigeria Nurses are not longer engaging in research work, seminars or even in pursuit of their bachelor in Nursing science(BNS) or even Masters not to talk of PHD in nursing. And this is what is killing Nurses in the country as a whole, instead of acquiring more knowledge we prefer turning ourselves as slaves in the hand of  Doctors.
Importance Of Education In Nursing.
Because nursing is one of the many profession that is changing rapidly in terms of complexities and technologies .
1. With improved health literacy, people are living longer than ever before. Currently, the average Australian life expectancy is around 80years but with greater longevity comes more complex health concerns. This makes providing the Nursing care more challenging and means it is ever more important to be well educated as a Nurse.
2. Education and understanding best practise care delivery is more than numbers earned each year. It's a commitment to be a professional. Keeping up-to-date and continuously seeking to improve and ultimately to provide individuals with the best care.
Nurses should arise up to these clamour call, to fight for the new generation of Nurses. To improve on their educational standard as we together make NURSING great not only in Nigeria but to other part of the world.
