Good evening professional colleagues, It’s my pleasure to welcome each and everyone of us to this few minutes lecture on Time management
It’s quite a vast topic but we will just take the few vital ones then if you need more you can search out for some more details. Time they say is very precious & once wasted cannot be retrieved, without mincing words here are the things we are going to look at today based on Time management
We all know what time is and how attached we are with time in our daily activities... but for us to make it in life we need to work with time effectively. Lots of people complain about us "the doctors and nurses" because it seems to most that we don’t quite have time for ourselves let alone for friends. A whole lot of us have issues with my family and friends because of Time so it’s good we manage our time effectively so that we can do and leave together as a family. We will also be looking at some vital things about Time management. Things like:
1. What are the benefits of Time management
2. What is the importance of Time management
3. What is the main purpose of Time management
4. Why should we even management our time
5. What are the basic tips to manage our time
-Benefits of Time management:
Managing your time can directly reduce your stress level.
Fewer tight deadlines.
Less rushing from task-to-task and place-to-place.
You can get more work done.
Of course, being productive is one of the main goals of time management. When you are aware of what you need to do, you are able to better manage your workload. You will be able to get more (of the right tasks) done in less time.
You have more free time. We can’t create more time, but you can make better use of it by managing your time. Even simple actions like shifting your commute or getting your work done early can produce more leisure time in your life.
You have more opportunities in life. Being on top of your time and work produces more opportunities. The early bird always has more options. As well, luck favors the prepared.
You have more time where it matters. Managing your time is allotting your time where it has the most impact. Time management allows you to spend your time on the things that matter most to you.

Time management allows you to take control of your life rather than follow the flow of others. You accomplish more, you make better decisions, and you work more efficiently; this leads to a more successful life.

The purpose of time management is enabling people to get more and better work done in less time. ... Use that information to guide scheduling tasks.
- In terms of purpose of Time management....
We as nurses we can make things done within a stipulated time with or without supervision, nurses all know how good we are good at improvising, we rather use the available things we have at that given time than to wait for ages to get what we needed in the first place
There is this slogan that says... "when the desired is not available the available becomes desirable" this is also effective in time management because you want to manage what you have at a given time.
- Why should we manage our time
We all know when you manage your time It allows you to accomplish more in a shorter period of time, which leads to more free time, which lets you take advantage of learning opportunities, lowers your stress, and helps you focus, which leads to more career success. Each benefit of time management improves another aspect of your life.
A friend recently complained to me on how a colleague called him and said he can’t make it to work... this same colleague has already planned his time maybe even before leaving his house this morning... maybe after duty I have this place to go, I have this time to spend here but his plan was cancelled by his colleague. We all know that without time nothing will ever work in our daily activities....
- Now here are the tips to manage our time effectively...
1. know your goals:
Make sure you are engaging in a activities that support your business both short and long-term everything else is a potential time-waster.
2. Prioritise wisely:
Stephen Covey co-op author not First Things First, offers an organisational tool for your to do list based on how important and urgent tasks are. Looking at what goes into making up your day,where do your activities fit into these categories:
# important and urgent -these re task that must be done do them right away.
# important but not urgent- task that appears important but upon closer examination aren't ,then decide when to do them.
# urgent but not important- tasks that make the most"noise" but when accomplished have little or no lasting Value, delegate them if possible.
#not urgent and not important- low priority stuff that offer the illusion of "being busy" do then later .
3. Just say no:
You are the boss if you have to decline a request in order to attend to what's truly important and urgent ,do not hesitate to do so.The same goes for any project or activities that you have determined are headed nowhere.be prepared to move on to more productive tasks.
4. Plan ahead:
One of the worst things you can do is jump into the workday with no clear idea about what needs to get done. When to plan:
* A night before - At the end of day take 15mins to clear your desk and put together a list of the next day and most pressing tasks.
* First thing in the morning- Arrive a few minutes early and assemble your prioritised to do list this may prove to be the most productive part of your day
5. Eliminate distraction:
Start paying attention to the number of time someone interrupt you when you re in the midst of an important task. Track self-induced interruptions too, particularly those of the social media . your smartphone is extremely useful but it's also addictive and among the most insidious time -wasters known to mankind. It may take a massive exercise in will power but shut the door and turn off your phone to maximise your time instead of being "always on"plan a break in the day to catch up on emails,call people back,talk with staff etc.
6. Delegate more often:
If you have done a good job of hiring talented, dedicated employee,there is always more work they can take off your desk.Running a successful small business depends upon the owners ability to think about what lies ahead and not get mired in day to day operations. Look for opportunities to pass responsibility for specific tasks to others on your team.
7. Take care of yourself:
Finally,be sure to get plenty of sleep and exercise. An alert mind as high -functioning mind and one that's less tolerant of time wasting...
We have over more than 30 tips of Time management but these are the vital ones though all are important but I choose to pick some from the top tips. For instance this lecture was given to start at a particular time and also end at a particular time... it’s also attribute to time management. Some of us to left some important activities just to be a part of this. We as health workers particularly the nurses and doctors spend all our time in the hospital... we don’t have time for social activities... we give our patients our maximum time but we don’t give our self the time our brain needs to rest. Believe me if we can plan our time or manage it the way other people manage their time we won’t be complaining about anything
Everything is not all about nursing nursing nursing .... sometimes we need to creat time for our friends... create time for nature... create time for social activities... use your time wisely... visit the pool , visit the bar, visit the motherless homes, visit the prisoners... spend time alone to think about how life is treating you....
Sometimes freedom helps you to be yourself.. it can not only increase productivity but it can also make you to save time... learn to appreciate. We might be in one position or the other someday... learn to reward your employee In small way you can or have them reward themselves by so doing they will discharge their duties effectively and on time too
If we can not manage our time effectively believe me non of us will be here today because I remember nursing council exams... * answer 5 questions in 2hours* if you don’t manage your time you be answering question 1 and you already spent 1 hour in that question..
In conclusion time management is very important in our daily living because time wasted can not be retrieved so make haste while the sun shines....
Thanks for giving me this opportunity, I hope with this little knowledge we acquired tonight we would be able to restructure our self and manage our time effectively..... I remain loyal.....
