OPINION: Unforeseen Disaster In The Nursing Profession
Date Posted: 24/Oct/2017
There seems to be a pending unforeseen disaster looming in the nursing profession in reference to the new guide line for licence renewal by nursing and midwifery council of Nigeria.
Its a shame and a pity that the national association of Nigeria nurses and midwives which is suppose to be the voice of nurses are now part of council to stagnate and financially rob her members through mandatory update programs that cost over #100,000 without increasing the period of licensure for said nurses just in the name of renewing licence for a three year period.
Lets look at it critically;
The financial involvement is overwhelming and time consuming. This is capable of limiting so many nurse from renewing their licences considering the bleeding economic climate in Nigeria.
How do you imagine a nurse with a low income job  or without job to renew his/her licence?
This can also limit a lot of nurses who are in search of jobs or intend furthering their education because, you must have a current practicing licence to do all this.
I think NANNM should be made to stand for it purpose and responsibilities which is to speak for ordinary nurses they are there to represent.
