HEALTH workers in Oyo State have resolved to join the ongoing strike of the national body of Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU).
The health workers, arising from a meeting, on Monday, noted the imperativeness to align with the demands of the national JOHESU, which include: immediate release of circular on adjustment of CONHESS salary table since January 2014; immediate release of circular on extension of retirement age from 60 to 65, to be backdated to February 2014 when the issue was presented to the National Council on Establishment; release of harmonised scheme of service for nurses and midwives, in line with the NICN ruling.
Chairman, JOHESU, Oyo State, Teslim Olawuwo, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, noted that the state body was compelled to shelve the ongoing impasse with the state government and join the national struggle.
“By God’s grace, we will commence the strike 12.00 a.m. Tuesday. We have been directed to join the strike since December 1, but because of our own peculiar issue in Oyo State, we have been reluctant to join the strike.
“But, there is a super directive that regardless what is happening in any state, we should join the strike with immediate effect.
“Consequently, health workers, except medical doctors, are expected to down tools in compliance to the directive,” he said.
