Nurses Kick Adamawa Govt On Decrepit Medicare
Date Posted: 30/Oct/2013

The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has criticized the Adamawa State government over decaying health infrastructure, lack of working tools in hospitals and unfair treatment of nurses in the state.

Speaking in an exclusive interview  in Yola, the chairman of Adamawa State chapter of the association, Adamu Watu, accused the state government of neglecting the health sector, expressing concern for the plight of the sick whose expectations he said are being frustrated by empty promised.

He decried the dilapidated state of physical structure in many hospitals and health centres in the state while lack of instruments and poor sanitation constitute to affect both patients and workers. He spoke specifically on the physical condition of the Psychiatric Unit of the Specialist Hospital in Yola which he described as unfit for human beings, lamenting the insensitivity of government to the issue despite several complaints by workers.

"Go to the Psychiatric Unit of the Specialist Hospital, the place is not ideal for human beings. This is the psychiatric unit where we keep patients. We tried to make government see the need to renovate the place but till today government has not listened. The building is completely inhabitable for human beings. I hope you will go and see for yourself," Watu said.
