JOHESU Strike Aimed at Stoping Inauguration of a Medical Doctor as Chairman Nursing & Midwifery Council
Date Posted: 28/Aug/2013
President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointments of the chairmen and members of the governing boards of 42 federal government agencies and parastatals.
Prominent and most controversial among those appointed is Dr.Mrs Abisola Clark a Medical Practitioner who was appointed Chairman of the Nursing and Midwifery council of Nigeria.
The appointments were announced last week in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
Anyim said the membership of each of the governing board would include all the statutory ex-officio members in accordance with the enabling laws of the parastatals and agencies.
"The dates for the formal inauguration of the governing boards will be announced in due course by the supervising authorities and ministers," he added.
It would be recalled that this was a critical issue highlighted in the just suspended JOHESU Strike as was noted and agreed upon by the federal government and JOHESU that the appointment of a medical practitioner as chairman of the nursing and midwifery council of nigeria was done in error and would be rectified accordingly. It was therefore agreed that the honorable minister of labour and productivity and health, and the head of the civil service of the federation would meet with his excellency, mr president to rectify this observed anomalies.
The anomaly should be corrected within twenty one (21) days. The parties will reconvene on monday , september 2, 2013 for further briefing on the outcome of the meeting with Mr. president on this burning issue.
