The Anambra State Government has announced the closure of Nkpor School of Nursing and Midwifery in Idemili North Local Government and the transfer of all affected students to Amaku University Teaching Hospital,Awka.
This development comes as government said it was releasing N800 million to four mission hospitals, for upgrading of health facilities,two new bridges across Agulu Lake and 3.5 kilometers new bye-pass road across the Agulu Lake.
The closure of the Nkpor School of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as the award of contracts for the construction of the two bridges and the 3.5 kilometer roads was announced during a briefing at the Government House,Awka, by the Commissioner for Information,Culture and Tourism,Chief Joe Martins Uzodike.
Giving details of the initiatives, Uzodike said that the sum of N200 million was approved for construction of facilities at the State University Amaku Teaching Hospital, while each of the four mission hospitals, namely,St Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha, St Joseph Mission Hospital, Adazi, Our Lady of Lords Hospital, Ihiala and Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi will each receive N200 million, to enable them pursue their accreditation.
