Kenya: Listen to the Nurses Issues, Says Mwathi
Date Posted: 11/Jan/2013

Limuru MP Peter Mwathi has asked the government to address the grievances of the nurses. Mwathi praised the nurses for returning to work saying their union should be registered.

The MP said for the five weeks the nurses were on strike, Kenyans suffered. He said politicians had to pay for medical bills of the poor treated in private hospitals.

The MP was speaking at Limuru Nursing Home where she paid Sh15, 000 for Lydia Moraa's delivery bill. Mwathi said if the nurses' grievances, wananchi will continue to suffer.

He said the patients have been spending much more than they can afford for medication. "I think the nurses are right and if the constitution allows that they should have a union, so be it. The government should address the issue amicably without threatening to sack the nurses," Mwathi said.
