Official activities at the Abuja headquarters of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) have remained paralysed amidst looming violence, as the staff protested the appointment of Mrs. Eunice Chika Azuike as the new registrar.

The protesters yesterday said the appointment of Azuike, Director (Nursing) in the Federal Ministry of Health by the minister, did not conform to the guidelines and was “not properly done and inconsiderate, given that she had served as a board member of the council but refused to know the challenges of the Council”.
Chairman of the Council Mr. O. Ogunkoya, who spoke with The Guardian, said he was “aware that the workers are protesting the appointment of the new Registrar, and he has forwarded their grievance to the national Chairman Mr. Lawrence Okedioaha so as to ascertain the necessary course of action to take”.
Okedioaha, when contacted, said he was not aware that a new Registrar had being appointed by the ministry, and promised to call his members to confirm the information.
Meanwhile the staff at the council office brandishing placards with inscriptions like “NMCN detests you Azuike” and “Azuike as NMCN Registrar, No way” said “there are competent people that are working in the Council among the Staff who can be appointed Registrar, because they understand the challenges that they face at the council better.”
