Prestige Nursing + Care has partnered with Dementia UK to provide a specialist dementia nurse to support service users and their families.
Based in Norfolk, Admiral Nurse Sue Jones will provide one-to-one support, practical advice and expert guidance to help local people face dementia with more confidence and less fear.
She will train Prestige Nursing + Care staff and look at the company’s policies and procedures to ensure they reflect the needs, rights and wishes of people with dementia and their families. Jones will also work closely will the local community, providing support for people with rarer types of dementia, such as young onset Alzheimer’s, so that families have access to the most suitable care pathways to meet their complex needs.
Prior to her role at Prestige Nursing + Care, Jones was an Admiral Nurse at the Norfolk and Suffolk Foundation Trust between 2013 and 2016 as well as being an Associate Tutor across the health sciences curriculum at East Anglia University.
Commenting on her new role, she said: “It’s a huge honour to undertake this post with Prestige Nursing + Care. As the Admiral Nurse I will be supporting families with the most complex needs to enable them to provide care at home for as long as possible. This role will also provide the opportunity to work with families and other stakeholders to undertake further research into the impact home care services can have on outcomes for both people with dementia and their family carers.”
Jonathan Bruce, managing director of Prestige Nursing + Care said: “It is excellent that we can offer such comprehensive support for those living with dementia. More and more people are being diagnosed with dementia each day and by working with Sue and Dementia UK, we can help to support them and their families.
“Dementia UK does tremendous work and we’re really pleased that we can offer this support in the community.”
Dr Hilda Hayo, CEO and Chief Admiral Nurse at Dementia UK, added: “We know that cases of dementia are increasing so it’s essential that families are given the support to help them live more confidently with the condition. For this to happen, we need to work closely with a range of organisations and this is why our partnership with Prestige Nursing + Care will make all the difference. Sue Jones is our first Admiral Nurse at this domiciliary care provider and we are honoured to have someone with such amazing background and experience start this post.
Dementia UK currently has 273 Admiral Nurses and it is well on track to have 300 in place by 2020.
