The Labour Court has made a bid to resolve the bitter nurses dispute this morning.
It is reviewing the row over pay with a view to establishing what, if any, assistance it can provide in resolving it.
It has asked the general secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, Phil Ni Sheaghdha, the general secretary of ICTU, Patricia King, and officials from the HSE, Department of Health and Department of Public Expenditure and Reform to meet this morning.
They will be asked to "share their assessment" of the dispute at this time. The meeting will take place at 11am. The hope is that if some formula for a formal hearing is agreed that next week’s three days of strike will be suspended and patients notified procedures will go ahead.
