World Sickle Cell Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2008 to increase awareness about this genetic disorder that can be cured and managed, if diagnosed early. 
 
The day is dedicated to celebrate to make the people aware about the Sickle cell disease and the proper cure of the Sickle Cell Disease. 
 
Sickle Cell disease is an inherited disorder and if one of the parents has it, the child is susceptible to the disease. 
 
It  is a painful disorder and while there is no cure yet for sickle cell anaemia, certain treatments can help relieve the pain and avoid ailments associated with this disorder. 
People living with Sickle cell disease mostly children and teenage are usually termed warriors because of the struggles and battles they do with the disease. 
 
They suffer alots of torture and crisis from this serious and chronic preventable sickle cell disease.
 
The best way to prevent sickle cell disease is by knowing and ascertaining the genotype status of every individual. Couples can do alots in the prevention of the disease by knowing their respective genotype before marriage. 
 
Know your genotype to save your future children from the constant torture and crisis of sickle cell disease.
 
On this day NUNSA remembers and mourns all those warriors who loss their lives prematurely from torture this grave and preventable disease.
