Healthcare Delivery: FG Harps On Private Sector Partnership
Date Posted: 14/Feb/2018
The minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole, has said that Nigeria stands to gain a lot by aligning with organisations that were able to offer innovative and transformative opportunities that would accelerate health care delivery in the country.

The minister stated this while speaking with officers from IntraHealth International, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa and DAI Global Health, who paid him a visit at the ministry, in Abuja.

According to him, the federal government was ready to partner with any capable organisation to make quality health care accessible and affordable to all Nigerians in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said that the ministry was poised to experiment on new models, which could be replicated conveniently in all states of the federation.

The minister however harped on the need to be innovative by integrating necessary deliverables targeted at making any model adopted sustainable in the long run.

Adewole revealed that the federal government was currently trying out a basic health care model in 3 states: Niger, Abia and Osun through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

He also hinted that the ministry was mapping the models experimented upon to reduce overlapping of functions “so as to know what is working or not working. All these effort are geared towards improving healthcare service delivery and the wellbeing of Nigerians”.

Speaking on behalf of the group, the President/CEO, IntraHealth International, Pape A. Gaye, said the aim of their visit was to seek areas of possible collaboration in Primary Health care service delivery through Public Private Partnership (PPP.

The alliance, Mr. Gaye said would assist Nigeria with the enormous task of improving health care delivery especially at the grassroots level.
