The Philippine government’s suspension of the deployment of workers to Kuwait has prompted the Kuwait foreign ministry to summon the Philippine envoy there.
Lawmakers in Kuwait are also forming a committee to look into the issue, Kuwait media reported.
Kuwait deputy foreign minister Khaled Sulaiman Al-Jarallah said Philippine ambassador Renato Villa was asked to lift the “ban.”
Jarallah added Kuwait ambassador to the Philippines Musaed Al-Thuwaikh would meet with Philippine officials over the issue.
Jarallah also said Villa was told about the “freedoms and rights” enjoyed by expatriate communities.
There are about 276,000 Filipino workers in Kuwait.
Meanwhile, Kuwait lawmakers are to form a committee to investigate the maid recruitment problem.
