The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has commissioned the Primary Healthcare Centre he promised to renovate at Fuka village, Munye Local Government Area of Niger State.
Speaking at the ceremony, on Tuesday, 10th October, 2017, the Minister said that it was in fulfillment of his promise that the hospital was renovated and put to use.
Adewale said “The Commissioner of Health brought me here when we were bothered about Lassa fever outbreak last year, we came here we saw the old clinic that was abandoned and I made a pledge to renovate it as a signed of commitment to care for our people”.
However, the Minister said that the work was done in partnership with the Niger State Government and the partnership would continue in terms of provision of healthcare service to the rural area in the state.
The Minister called on the community leaders and Local Government Authority to take ownership of the Fuka healthcare facility.
In his words, Adewole said “What is important is that the people should own this facility, my special appeal to the community and the Chairman of the Local Government Authority is to take care of this hospital. This is your property it does not belong to federal government, neither does it belong to the state government, please look after it, take care of it and ensure that it satisfies the need of the people.”
The Minister called on the state Governor to invest more on education, healthcare service and water. “when you invest in people they will easily vote for you in the next election. In rural areas what they want is health, education and water; once you give them the three then the rest would come later”.
In his remark, the Executive Governor of the State, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello said that Niger State Government had flagged-off revitalization of one Primary Healthcare Centre per ward, however due to in adequate funding to complete the revitalization at once; the State Government selected 274 Primary Healthcare Centers at the 274 wards and provided the needed medical facilities that would make them work effectively.
The Governor made a symbolic presentation of the hospital facilities to five primary healthcare centers out the 274 selected during the commissioning ceremony at Fuka village.
Also speaking, the Etsu Nupe, Chairman Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alh. Yahaya Abubakar commended the Hon. Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole and the Executive Governor, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello for their commitment to providing health care services to the citizens of Niger State.
He assured that the traditional rulers in the area would take owner ship of the clinic and would ensure that it functioned effectively.
Earlier, the Hon. Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole , the Executive Governor of Niger State, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello, the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib and the President of Global Development Bill and Malinda Gates Foundation, Dr. Chris Elias signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening and transforming Primary Healthcare Centers in Niger State.
The MOU was aimed at improving governance, human resources and information system in Niger state’s public healthcare system.
