The Coalition of Civil Society Against Corruption has urged the embattled Executive Secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme, Prof. Usman Yusfu, to cooperate with the panel investigating activities in the agency under his administration
The spokesperson of the coalition, Comrade Raji Oyewumi, also called for transparency in the on-going investigation of the suspended NHIS boss.
“We are disturbed by the mind-blowing revelations of corrupt practices in all key sectors of our national life. We are undoubtedly optimistic that if this on-going drive against corruption is sustained, our country will no longer be a safe haven for looters.
Oyewumi, however, called on the EFCC to subject those found guilty after investigation have been concluded to the dictates of the laws.
He added, “Nobody should be seen as being above the law irrespective of their political affiliation, religious and tribal inclination. We also call on the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to comb all other agencies of the government.
“Corruption is the reason why only two per cent of Nigerians are enrolled under the scheme compared to 75 per cent coverage in the United States.
The National Coordinator, Concerned Human Rights, Comrade Declan Ihekaire, advised the lawmakers to conduct the investigation without fear or favour.
Ihekaire said, “We are saying that if you are accused of anything, once you are a public officer, you should on your own submit yourself to investigation. When you are cleared, you are cleared. But what we see these days is that heads of agencies hardly step aside during investigations as it is done in other parts of the world. ’’
