Nursing Students Protest Non-Payment Of Stipend
Date Posted: 23/Jul/2017
Nursing students of the district headquarter hospital went on a strike for an indefinite period here on Saturday, demanding release of the withheld stipend. They held a protest meeting, where the nurses chanted slogans against the provincial health department. They also held placards and banners on which their demands were written.

They appealed to the chief minister, PTI chairman Imran Khan and health minister to solve their problem at the earliest.

The protesting students said they were paid only Rs5,000 as stipend while in the entire KP their other colleagues were drawing Rs20,000 as monthly stipend, adding the meager amount was also not paid to them for five months.

They said the matter had been brought into the notice of high-ups of the health department, and the secretary health had ordered DG health for early release of the stipend as per the rules but the matter was still pending with the finance department.

The protesters threatened that if their demand was not met in a week they would again come on the roads. DHQ hospital MS Aqeel Bangash told reporters that the matter was being taken up with provincial health department and he was hopeful for early settlement of the issue.
