Katsina State NANNM And The Opposition Within
Date Posted: 18/Mar/2017
I deemed it necessary to throw a light on the political instability that has engulfed Katsina state chapter of NANNM in flames. Throughout  my 10yrs of nursing practice in katsina state, monthly dues were unmistakably deducted from me but up to this time no registration form of the union was given to me talkless of being issued a membership ID card. I attended post basic school and now in university but up to date I have never received a penny from NANNM in terms of financial assistance.
My colleagues from other states used to tell me about the post retirement package, Academic assistance, medical bill settlement, changing the image of nursing through sponsoring programs in the Media outfits to mention but a few, all these from the leadership of their respective state chapters. But none of these had ever happened in my state chapter.
Unfortunately , sometimes last year, the provost of katsina college of nursing and midwifery was replaced, NANNM had neither critised the process nor applauded it, subsequently the directors of schools of nursing and midwifery were replaced, again, the leadership of the union has neither acknowledged nor dispelled the process and finally the directorate of nursing at the state hospital service management board was dissolved early this year, that was the time the NANNM reacted bitterly because their boss, (the then DNS) was removed, that was the time they requested audience from the governor, the opportunity they misused, they ended up disgracing the nursing profession in the eyes of the governor, this has generated many palpable tension in the katsina nursing community that lead to the current impeachment saga and the court issues that circumscribed the state chapter right now.
My opinion here is that, impeachment is not the solution , all the nursing elite in the state must ensure amicable resolution of this, if that is not possible then the national body should come to katsina and ensure resolution ofthe issue through fair hearing of both sides.
If all these are not possible, then we will use all at our disposal to ensure that we bring the necessary change required.
Finally I want to use this medium to call on the nurses accross the state to maintain high spirit of professionalism , members from FMC and National fistula centre katsina should get ready for a revolution soon to come.
