The Name Alhaji Faruk Umar Abubakar doesnt ring a bell neither does a google search reveal much. The only information on the name Faruk Umar Abubakar is the post i got on NursingworldNigeria.com stating that he used to be the provost at the college of nursing sokoto.
Another unverifiable source lists him as a native of sokoto state and a former lecturer at the department of Nursing Sciences at the usmanu Dandodiyo university. It further adds that he holds an RN, RNT, B.Sc Nursing, M.Sc, a Fellow of the west african college of nursing and a PhD student at the department of nursing science at ABU Zaria.
THE PROPOSED NURSING COUNCIL HEADQUARTERS IN ABUJA
Which ever source is right, these towering academic qualifications and administrative expertise didnt go unnoticed when in september of 2016, the federal government appointed him Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
Social media critics and arm chair critics of the Council can today, honestly testify that barely three months since Alhaji Faruk Umar Abubakar assumed office, undisputable remarkable CHANGE has bloosomed in the day-to-day runnings of the council.
For example, in November 2016, Alhaji Faruk ressurected the council website
, a feat that had seemed impossible in the last two decades. Now you can visit the council website at nmcn.gov.ng and get latest updates on happenings within the council. For once, the nursing profession can boast of a befitting, functional and user friendly website.
Remember the endless wait for release of professional examinations? those days are history now. In a historic feat that has never been accomplished and one that looked like it would never happen in our time, The council under the leadership of Alhaji Faruk Umar Abubakar in the first week of January 2017, released the professional examination results for November 2016
--- I dont know how he did it but he did.
We might have forgotten but be reminded that the NMCN Board had resolved at its 39th General meeting held in lagos in 2014 that a refresher course be mounted for candidates who were eliminated in the last ten years. Well it took Alhaji faruk Umar Abubakar 3 months of assuming office as registrar to release guidelines for the implementation of this refresher course
for eliminated students with an immediate approval of 20 schools to run the program. A program that was conceived in 2014 and stalled until he came on board.
From the looks of it, Alhaji faruk Umar Abubakar had been working tirelessly on the internship circular that was released 3 months ago, He suprised the nigerian nursing community with a memo that confirmed that the council has concluded arrangements for the commencement of Nursing internship program
not in 6 months, not in one year but from JANUARY 2017.
These i believe are just a few of his many accomplishments in the last three months. There might be more than these of which we at Nursingworld Nigeria are not aware of.
All these feats within 4 months just makes me wonder, is Faruk umar Abubakar the nursing Messiah we have been tarrying for? Is he a Magician with the canning ability to get things done with a wave of his magic wand or is he just simply Marvelous? Sincerely, i think he is our own very MMM - Messaih, Magician, Marvelous.
I for one cannot keep mute and feign ignorance to the fact that the current captain of our professional regulatory 'ship' has set us on the right course. He and his team at the council deserve recommendations for these giant strides accomplished so far and they need our prayers, support and encouragement.
The path that lies ahead is not an easy one, there is still so much work to be done and we as nurses must give the council the maximum support they need to acheive more.
Remember, one word of encouragement can be enough to lift ones' spirits, spark someone's motivation to contiue with a difficult challenge and go a long way to make one successful in their endeavours.
I hope to visit the council in the coming weeks to get to sit, discuss and offer my support to this gentle man whom has inspired hope in the hearts of many nurses within and outside Nigeria
(I couldnt get a picture to use for this post and would update the post with a recent picture of the Registrar soon)
God bless Alhaji Faruk Umar Abubakar
