NMCM: "Take Pictures of Patients, Post it on Social Media and You Will Be Struck off"
Date Posted: 16/Dec/2016
Nurses and midwives have been warned they will be investigated and punished if they  are found sharing pictures of victims at accident scenes or in hospital, including via social media without consent.

The Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi (NMCM) tough new position statement on the issue comes after people have been sharing pictures of dead or injured as well as those under medical care in public hospitals on social media including online news sites like Nyasa Times.

The nursing professional body took out an advert in national newspapers warning its members that they could be struck off their professional register if they are found taking pictures of victims.

“The NMCM would like to make a plea to the public, more especially its practising nurses and midwives, to refrain from taking part in these malpractices,” reads part of the statement signed by NMCM registrar and CEO Isbaella Msolomba Musisi.

“This is morally, ethically and professionally wrong, besides causing more psychological trauma to the relatives of the concerned victims”.
